Beyond the Veil: A Shadow Growth Journal for the Turning of the Year

Samhain is almost here. The veil is thinning, the nights are growing long, and the old year is ready to be laid to rest. For witches, it’s the beginning of a new year, and the perfect moment to begin something that matters.

That’s why I created Beyond the Veil: A Shadow Growth Journal.

🌑 Where This Journal Came From

If you’ve read The Witch’s Rebirth series, you know Merona’s story isn’t only about magic and war. It’s about facing what lives in the dark: grief, betrayal, old wounds and the parts of ourselves we’d rather not see. Again and again, Merona has to walk into her own shadows to find her power.

While writing her story, I realized how much of that journey belongs to all of us. So I created a journal that walks the same path she does, season by season, around the Wheel of the Year.

🔮 What Is Shadow Work?

Shadow work is the practice of gently looking at the parts of ourselves we’ve hidden, ignored or carried too long: old fears, patterns, hurts and beliefs that quietly shape our lives. It isn’t about dwelling in darkness. It’s about bringing light to it, so we can understand ourselves and grow.

I call it shadow growth, because that’s what it is. Like seeds beneath the soil, the deepest growth often begins in the dark.

🍂 Inside the Journal

Beyond the Veil follows the eight sabbats of the Wheel of the Year, beginning at Samhain:

Samhain · Yule · Imbolc · Ostara · Beltane · Litha · Lughnasadh · Mabon

For each season, you’ll find:

  • Three guided reflections tied to the energy of that sabbat, from releasing what no longer serves you at Samhain to celebrating your growth at Mabon

  • Seasonal affirmations to carry with you

  • Room to write, so your thoughts have space to breathe

You’ll also find a labyrinth meditation, an ancient path you trace with your finger to the center and back out again, and a closing chapter, The Outward Path, to help you carry what you’ve learned into the year ahead.

It’s a full year of reflection, meant to be taken slowly, one season at a time.

🕯️ Why Begin at Samhain?

Samhain marks the end of the old year and the start of the new. It’s the season of the Crone, of remembrance and of letting go. There’s no better time to set down what you’ve been carrying and decide who you want to become as the wheel turns again.

You don’t need to be a witch to use this journal. You only need a willingness to look inward, a pen and maybe a candle and a cup of tea.

📖 Who This Journal Is For

  • Readers of The Witch’s Rebirth who want to walk Merona’s path in their own lives

  • Anyone drawn to the Wheel of the Year and seasonal living

  • Those beginning shadow work, or returning to it

  • Anyone looking for a meaningful gift for the witchy soul in their life

A gentle note: shadow work can bring up strong feelings. Go at your own pace, and reach out to someone you trust, or a professional, if you need support. This journal is a companion for reflection, not a substitute for care.
